Jacksonville, Savannah & Charleston Trip

We are thinking about spending a week from March 31 to April 7 flying into %26amp; out of Jacksonville (to see family) and than renting a car and driving to Savannah %26amp; Charletson. While we%26#39;ve been to Jacksonville %26amp; St Augustine we have never been to either Savannah or Charleston.

How is the weather that time of year?

This will be right before Easter, how is it to visit these locations at that time of year?

Any recommendations or thoughts on how much time to spend in each city, must things to do/see, places to eat and places to stay would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Marty

Jacksonville, Savannah %26amp; Charleston Trip

Your trip sounds great and is definitely do-able. The weather will be mild and improving, but not yet really warm. Gardens will be in full bloom. Savannah and Charleston are popular in the weeks before and after Easter, so expect some crowds and make reservations in advance.

In one week, you will need to move right along. Naturally, you want time in Jacksonville with family, and you will need to allow driving time. I would suggest spending a one day in Savannah, stopping in Beaufort on your way to Charleston, and spending two days in Charleston - one for the historic city , and another for a plantation visit.

When you have made your schedule and determined your major interests, post again for restaurant and hotel recommendations.

Jacksonville, Savannah %26amp; Charleston Trip

I%26#39;ve booked my flight %26amp; car rental for our trip.

We are flying into Charleston on Saturday March 31 arriving at around 11:30 AM and departing from Jacksonville the following Saturday morning (an 8:30 AM flight).

Right now I was planning to spend 2 nights in Charleston (Saturday %26amp; Sunday), 2 nights in Savannah (Monday %26amp; Tuesday), 2 nights on Amelia Island (Wednesday %26amp; Thursday) and 1 night in Jacksonville closer to the airport to make it easier to catch a morning flight.

How does this sound?

In both Charleston %26amp; Savannah I would like to stay in or near the Historical Districts and within walking distance of the sights, restaurants etc... We are not really BB people.

Any recommendations on where to stay, what to see and where to eat would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Marty

Hi

Just be aware you are talking about the same weekend as the Cooper River bridge run.

See my post back in June on this forum. You may have trouble getting anywhere in the historic district a reasonable price for that weekend!

You%26#39;re right!

Many of the hotels that I looked at booking had no rooms or event (high)rates!!

So far I found rooms at the Holiday Inn Charleston Historic District at $238/night, no rooms at the Harbor View Inn, $304night at the Renaissance Charleston I%26#39;ll keep looking.

Any alternative suggestions?

Thanks

Marty

Those rates sound about right to me. I know it%26#39;s annoying when something like this clashes with your dates.

I have no ideas except to consider staying out of town for a more reasonable rate, but then you may find driving restricted due to the run (road closures etc).

Sorry to be so negative, just thought it was only fair to warn you.

What do you think about the Andre Pinckney Inn? I got a rate qoute of $238 per night.

Or the Mills house for $247

Residence Inn Charleston Downtown Rivcerview for $204

Double tree guest Suites Historic District $279.

I think I need to book as soon as possible.

Also what will the race %26amp; race events do to our ability to get around town Saturday afternoon %26amp; Sunday?

Marty

The Mills House is great. It is a beautiful, full service hotel and is located in the heart of the historic disctrict. Elegant common areas and extremely nice staff. Excellent base for touring.

Very close to restaurants. (For example - Right across the street from from 82 Queen and Poogan%26#39;s Porch. One block from Joesph%26#39;s, which does great breakfast.)

Swimming pool is on the roof, though I doubt you will use it in your quick two days. Garage is attached by a walkway, so you don%26#39;t have to go out onto the street when loading your bags.

the mills house

Mills house is fine, I%26#39;ve heard.

We have it booked for Thanksgiving next week.
