Beaufort,SC trip Report

Just returned from a wonderful get-away in Beaufort.SC. We stayed at the Beaufort Inn. Arrived a little before sunset; which allowed us to see the entrance in along the side of the in, at the ';back';. Very friendly greeting at the front desk. Our room on the second floor, ';The Woodlawn'; (#4) was compact but nicely furnished with firm queen bed, TV/VCR, good cable selection, bath was shower/tub combo, robes, coffee/maker and great AC %26amp; ceiling fan above hardwood floors.

We decided to cancel our reservations for dinner at the Inn as it was a bit heavier than we desired, but very tempting if one has a larger appetite (e.g. steak, lamb, cream sauces, etc). Reception very graciously recommended a few other restaurants and even escorted us out to direct us. Very considerate! We decided against both Emily%26#39;s Tapas and Break Water; both were heavily smoky as one may smoke anywhere both inside and outside. My husband started to have an asthma attack in Emily%26#39;s as it was so smoky. Also both were very crowded so a reservation is recommended for Fri/Sat evenings.

We had a wonderful experience %26amp; dinner at Plum%26#39;s. Completely NO smoking so one could savor the food. We had 3 appetizers: wonderful coconut lemon grass green curry steamed mussels, fabulous crab cake (tennis ball size!) with wasabi cole slaw and shrimp %26amp; black bean quesadilla. We were quite full and with the excellent cosmopolitans (4 bucks what a deal!) and best draft beer I%26#39;ve had in a long time ( Yuengling lager from Pottsville, PA), we strolled out for coffee. We went right next door to Common Grounds. Had a very smooth cafe au lai, hot chocolate and shared a moist, cinnamony coffee cake. Common Grounds may have free wi-fi as a saw several people working on lap tops there.

At the Inn, enjoyed a rather extensive continental breakfast so didn%26#39;t need to order any a la carte extras. The Beaufort Inn put out a lovely selection of perfect fruit %26amp; pasteries: raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, melons, pineapple, yogurts, OJ, cereal (mostly pre-sweetened kid type), wonderful pecan cinnamon pastry, bite-size blueberry muffins, biscuits and warm french toast.

Thus fortified, spent the late morning on Hunting Island. Lovely, natural %26amp; not commerical area. Great wide, flat beach for long walks and just relaxing. So will definitely return to Beaufort and Hunting Island and try the kayak tour and perhaps horseback riding on the beach.

it%26#39;s a whole lot easier walking down from the top of that lighthouse than it is walking up to see the view. but worth every step.

Glad you enjoyed your trip to Beaufort! I was born there and recently returned and hope to return again one day soon.

I had dinner at the Beaufort Inn and it was truly wonderful! I highly reccommend dinner there. Very elegant, impeccable and friendly service and the food was delicious.

Hey Thanks for the report. We%26#39;re trying to get down there in January (If I can find a pet sitter). All info is good info.
