archaeology/history + affordable luxury?
Well that is wide open for sure. You mention archaeology and history, that has to be Charleston. Savannah has history but you are talking about a weekend and 3 hour drive is preferable to 5 hour. We live in Myrtle Beach now but lived in Spartanburg for 18 yrs and Simpsonville for year half. Just go to hotels and read reviews, there should be a hotel close to historic section of Charleston that would be affordable. You want to be downtown so you can walk everywhere and not have to drive your car.
