Relocation from New England to Lake Wylie area

After originally considering a move to Charleston, my wife and I and our two young kids (1 and almost 3 yrs) are now considering a relo to the greater Charlotte area.

Primary reasons are 1. Airport, and access to significantly more non stops from Charlotte/Douglas than Charleston.

2. Cost. The RE market in Charleston seems to be almost as out of sight as the northeast.

3. Proximity to family.

Any local thoughts on the above would be much appreciated.

We have heard great things about the Lake Wylie area, and are now starting to look more closely at three areas: Tega Cay and Riverhills in SC and The Palisades over in NC.

I have questions about the schools, the communities... the distance into Uptown Charlotte... the availability of baby sitters and au pairs... etc.

Any input would be much appreciated.
