Unstuffy restaurant in the heart of it all?

Off to Charleston next week. Have Magnolias booked for Thanksgiving, but need some advice for the Friday night. We are meeting up with friends and would like somewhere not stuffy or too expensive in the heart of Charleston where we can go bar hopping afterwards. I have been researching a bit on here but many of the restaurants are upscale and maybe a little stuffy? We just want somewhere a bit more casual, but still good food for that Friday night.

Any recs would be much appreciated, thanks.

Hanks Seafood is lots of fun - not cheap, but not too expensive either. Great seafood. Make a reservation.

Sticky Fingers Barbecue is a great place for ribs and is also ';in the heart of it all';. This is a chain, but it is a LOCAL chain. Must thave a great sense of humor since they just bought the ';coveted'; set portrait of Stephen Colbert to benefit charity. They also were giving free appetizers, after the elections, to anyone who would bring in a political sign, in an effort to clean up ';clean up the environment';.

for me it would be cru cafe. unbeatable food, priced right, casual atmosphere and did i mention the great food!! if you don%26#39;t do cru for dinner then try for lunch.

if you want casual home cooking maybe Jestine%26#39;s. oh, the new bar-b-q place (about a year old and i never remember the name!) on king street - much better to me than sticky fingers.

I%26#39;m not a fan of poogan;s, hank%26#39;s or sticky fingers - usually too many tourists and the food is predictable. they are popular, and are suggested lots, may be right for you

I was going to suggest Jim N%26#39; Nick%26#39;s. Which (not trying to put words in the mouth of the previous poster).... I think might be the one they referred to on King St. It%26#39;s really good!

After doing a bit more research I made reservations at Cru cafe. it looks great from the website.

May try out Poogans proch for brunch at the weekend.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

Wherever you decide to go, make a reservation!!! I would suggest SNOB (Slightly North of Broad) which is not cheap but not awful either. It%26#39;s a local favorite, and right at the heart of things on East Bay. The kitchen is in full view. It%26#39;s typical Low Country cuisine, and the menu changes daily. Blossom, a little further down on East Bay, is also more casual. Hanks Seafood has a community table where you can usually get a seat without a reservation. It%26#39;s a fun way to meet other travelers.
