whether in January?

My wife and I would like to come down for the first time in 1/17/07 for the long weekend. its president weekend on the 1/22/07. Will it be warm enough and does it get a bit more people that time? I read its around the 60%26#39;s in temp. I%26#39;m a big tennis fan and my wife loves the spa and shopping. I would appreciate some help in our decision to come down and where to stay. Much thanks,

Better check your calendar. The long ';holiday'; in January is MLK, Jr wknd( the actually day is Monday, Jan. 15); Presidents%26#39; wknd is in February (Monday, Feb. 19).

January and February are great times to visit; you%26#39;ll have the place to yourself. This is when most non-resident owners come back for a visit as the ';tourists'; have all gone home;-). Not sure when Kiawah owners have their annual meetings; Seabrook Island annual POA meeting is Presidents%26#39; wknd in Feb. Your choice of accommodations may not be available then (but there are still many more choices than during summer).

Winter weather is a crap-shot in the south. You could have a sunny 70 degree day or you could get an ice storm. The average is 50%26#39;s to 60%26#39;s but that%26#39;s the average. Regardless of the weather there is still plenty to do.

The weather in January can be pretty bleak, but it is definitely better than the weather in NJ. Kiawah and Seabrook are very quiet at that time, but there will still be people around - especially in the area of The Sanctuary Hotel.

Bicycling, tennis, and golf are good winter activities. You might also enjoy canoeing, kayaking, or just walking on the beach.

Like many non-resident property owners, we love escaping to Kiawah in the winter. Also, quite a few property owners do renovations in those months since rentals are slow. Nonetheless, I think you will find that there are lots of places available.

The spa at The Sanctuary Hotel, on Kiawah, is lovely. There is nice shopping at The Sanctuary and at ';Freshfields Village';, which is between Kiawah and Seabrook. Both islands are about 40 minutes, on scenic roads, from Charleston%26#39;s historic district, where there will be plenty of activity at any time.
