April Fests

It looks more and more like we%26#39;ll be spending a week in the Charleston area in April next year and I%26#39;ve come across a couple of festivals going on during that time.

The first is the Glorious Gardens Tour. We%26#39;d be doing this on the last Thursday of the event and I was wondering if this ever sells out or is it safe to wait until we%26#39;re there (and know what the weather%26#39;s like) to buy tickets.

The second is the Oyster Roast and Picnic at Drayton Hall on Tuesday. Has anyone been to this? Or, is it better to see this plantation without the crowds, tents, etc.?

Thanks!

These events definitely do sell out. The gardens are private, and open to the public only to benefit historic preservation. Even in a light drizzle, I would take the chance and go.

Oyster roasts are a lowcountry tradition. In the winter months, when local oysters are in season, you can find these big, casual picnics everywhere. At ther times, special event oyster roasts are held using oysters flown in for the occasion. Any oyster roast will be a lot of fun, and a great vacation experience.

Although I have never attended the oyster roast at Drayton Hall, I have been to the plantation many times. The grounds are extensive, so tents and oyster pits will not spoil the view.
