Which Plantations to Visit & How Long for Each

We are spending 2-3 days in Charleston at the end of March beginning of April. I would like to see either 1 or 2 Plantations. I%26#39;m leaning to visiting Middleton %26amp; Magnolia plantations. I %26#39;m planning on lunch at Middleton Place. At both we would skip the houses.

How long do you think we need to spend at each?

At Magnolia, which tours would you recommend?

Can we do them both in the same day?

Which Plantations to Visit %26amp; How Long for Each

I enjoyed the grounds and gardens at Middleton quite a bit. We stayed at the inn there and just walked over at will. The house was interesting - it%26#39;s old but not original to the plantation. It was in a package deal so we went in and I think it%26#39;s worth a brief visit. A couple of hours might be sufficient at Middleton. We enjoyed the food there.

We went to both plantations last Easter.I enjoyed Middleton much more than Magnolia. We toured the house at both as it was with the ticket price.Magnolia, we took the trolley tour that took us around the grounds and marshes. It would have been quite a walking tour otherwise.A couple of hours there was plenty for us.At Middleton the grounds was so pretty with everything bloomed and lots of things to photo-ops.The house was not original so I would probably skip it next time, but we loved the area around it.Be sure and wear comfortable shoes as there is alot of walking.I also would allow more time at Middleton.

Sorry, forgot to add that we did both in the one day and had plenty of time at both places.

Are these plantations just as beautiful in January? This is my first %26#39;winter%26#39; down south, and so I am not sure how the cooler weather affects the vegetation here?

There is always something in bloom at the plantations. However, I don%26#39;t think that the grounds are as beautiful as they are in the spring.

It would be hard to compare the winter and spring views. The azaleas in the spring are fantastic!. Of course, in the winter, there are the camellias, but if the weather is cold or windy, you won%26#39;t be able to enjoy them.
