Want to plan a golf trip for Feburary

Our regular foursome is actually going to take a trip this winter for a 5 day galf weekend. We are looking at Myrtle Beach, but there are so many resorts and courses to pick from. We are pretty much just looking for a decent place to stay and most likely will be playing 2 rounds a day.

So pretty much a golf all day then eat and sleep. If anyone has previous experiances with differant places and the real costs of things, can you please post here?

I know it is mid 50s in Jan-Feb, but alot warmer than here in Chicago.

We were looking at Vegas , but seems the wives didnt like that idea without them :)

Want to plan a golf trip for Feburary

I have to recommend Myrtlewood Golf Course and Myrtlewood Villas to you. There really is no comparison. The couse is first class and their villas are great, right on the course and you get plenty of room. The location is great and right near everything..

I agree that Mrytlwood is a great place....but if you are coming after our fall golf season and before spring season....I would look at something oceanfront....you can get a decent condo with a million dollar view at rock bottom rates that time of year! You might want to check out www.vrbo.com maybe take a look at Sea Island, SouthWind, or even Forest Dunes....all oceanfront, and in the Avenues area, which is towards the north end of the beach, not far from Grande Dunes, Myrtlewood, The Dunes Club, and Barefoot.......golf at that time of year is a bargin too, and if you are flexible with when and where you want to play....I%26#39;d book when you get into town. A number of course run some wonderful specials that they advertise in the local paper...the Sun News.

:)

Although MBConcierge listed 3 very good vacation hotels none of them are known for their golf packages.Long Bay,Grande Shores, and Ocean Reef have estabished golf packages and are located in the same area. Some restaurants I recommend in the area are Villa Mare,Bonefish Grille and Landrys.

If you want to stay in the center of Myrtle,The Breakers is known for their golf packages.

If ocean view is not a priority Myrtlewood is very good and I am a fan of both their courses.

In addition if you decide that you want to play the Southern end courses you can try Crown Reef. Phone Dave Mc Clean at their golf desk and tell him Tony Mik sent you. He will take good care of you.

I agree, Tony...the places that I listed are not known to be ';golfer'; hotels...but, with the past experieinces that I have had working at a golf desk....if you are looking at coming to MB to play golf in February, you could probably do better by booking your accomodations seperate from your golf....just take a trip down the oceanfront right now and you will see how much the rates have tumbled, and they continue to do so until late March/early April. Some golf packages will not let you ';pick and choose'; the courses that you would really like to play...so do keep that in mind if you do decide to go with a package. Most of the larger hotels have conceirge desks...they may not be full out ';golf desks'; but ';negogiated'; rates that the hotels contract for are pretty much the same across the board....so call and compare prior to committing to anything.

Either way....its a great way to spend February....and being a fellow Illini.....its a bit easier to golf here in Feb. than Joliet!

:)

To MBConcierge,

I am coming down on Nov.20,do you know of any good deals at that time frame.I try to stay in the $25 to $40 price range. With 2 children in college the Barefoots and Caledonia%26#39;s of golf heaven are out of the question. The Sun News always runs ads but I can%26#39;t seem to bring them up on their website. Is there someway to do this?

Back to cmuzz, you very well may be correct on renting a 3-bedroom condo and scheduling the golf themselves.Question is,have they been there before and do they know how to go about it?

Tony

Tony...

Not for sure if there is anyway to bring up the advertised specials from the Sun News...but here are a few from todays paper:

Eastport --- $34am/$29 after 11 (til 11/13 ...sorry)

Heron Point -- $39am/$35pm (includes carts...til 11/30)

International Club -- $67am/$57pm ($10 off am rate with ad)

I checked some of the other rates and found a number of places right at that $25 mark (not with cart....add $23)

Myrtlewood

Waterway Hills

Wild Wing Hummingbird

Indigo Creek

Indian Wells

MB National South and West Courses

Just to name a few....I would think that coming that week you should be able to take advantage of some of the 24 or 48 hour rates...especially if you are playing as a single and joining up with others....

Its a bit brutal here today.(low 50%26#39;s).but still looking at mid 70%26#39;s by mid of next week again!

:)

MBConcierge,

Thanks for the quick response.I will be eating at Villa Mare,Bonefish Grill and Captain Georges. Maybe my wife and I will run into you along the way and place the name with a face.We will be staying at Forest Dunes.

Tony and Arlene

Not a problem Tony!

Funny that you mention Villa Mare....had a group in house that went there for dinner last nite (first time for all)...they said I should%26#39;ve warned them about the HUGE portions....but I made out pretty good on that one --- enjoying their leftover lasagna for lunch today! Yum!
