Best of the Candlelight Tours?

Hi All,

Are there certain streets that seem to have larger, more luxurious homes on them? Which do you recommend? Please share your favorites.

I%26#39;m hoping for something like the mansions in Newport, RI...

We will certainly stop at plantation or two as well.

Thanks in advance!

The most beautiful homes are right on the battery in charleston. They are truly southern and magnificant. Not too far a ways down from rainbow row, you can walk along the Battery and admire the verandas and huge southern porches.

There are also many plantations to choose from. There%26#39;s Boone Hall, Magnolia (which has a great restaurant) and Drayton Hall (which was featured on the Travel Channel) for it%26#39;s hauntings.

For Candlelight tour, do The Battery if you can get a ticket. For plantation, visit Middleton Place for pure spendour. Drayton Hall is an authentic and unrestored historic home - the only one in the area never destroyed by war or natural disaster.

I should point out that the homes in Charleston%26#39;s historic district are general MUCH older than the homes in Newport. They are show places, but of an earlier era. Also, they are town residences, so they sit on smaller plots of land than the summer palaces of Newport. The details are exquisite. The gardens are magnificent.
