In the heart of it....

Hello everyone,

We will coming to Charleston for a couple of nights in November %26amp; was considering staying the hampton inn historic district. However I read a TA review stating its a 10 min walk to the ';heart of it';. We really want things on the doorstep,k although we will have a car.

I would appreciate the names %26amp; or locations for any hotels that fit the above criteria.

Thanks in advance

You are correct that the Hampton is not right in the heart of the historic district. If you want to be in the middle of it all you can check out the King Charles Best Western, or the Doubletree for the hotels Or we have quite a few historic inns such as the Indigo Inn, the Meeting Street Inn, the Planters Inn. And a really good thing to do is look them up on-line and when you arrive in Charleston go straight to the visitors center on Meeting Street and they do same day hotel reservations You can save yourself $30-150 by doing you reservations thru them. Have a great time in Charleston!

My wife and I stayed at the Best Western King Charles Inn on Meeting St. about 3 weeks ago. It is within walking distance of everything.

Its only about about a 5 minute walk to Market Street.

We booked through their main website. It was the cheapest rate I could find on the web.

Days Inn Historic District lacks ';charm,'; but it is clean and well-kept, and is about 30 seconds from the Market.

If it%26#39;s not too late, I%26#39;d suggest you NOT stay at the Hampton Inn on Meeting Street in the historic district. First, it%26#39;s WAY overpriced. Second, the internet access is iffy, the unknowledgable desk clerk gave me the wrong access code, there%26#39;s no provision for Ethernet connection in the updated rooms - you MUST have WIFI capability, so business travelers beware -, and there%26#39;s always a waiting line for the single computer in the lobby. Third, there%26#39;s NO parking except at $12/day in the adjacent public garage, accessible to anyone coming off the street. Fourth, we were solicited by a scamming bum on hotel property - he%26#39;d just lifted a banana off from the free breakfast buffet. Fifth, the hotel accommodates tourist bus loads, and the breakfast buffet is jampacked with a busload of noisy tourists who take up all the seating in the breakfast room. Sixth, the walk to most area attractions, such as the market, the acquarium, or the carriage rides, is considerable. Seventh, checkin parking is insufficient, always full of cars long after they%26#39;ve checked in. On the upside, area restaurants are excellent and the museum located diagonally across the intersection is not to be missed. All in all, I would not recommend this hotel to any friend, and we won%26#39;t be back.
