MB in January?

I assume there%26#39;d still be people around (walking the beach, in the hotels, etc.)? I wanted to make it to Folly Beach this fall/winter, but realized it%26#39;s not really a year-round destination, and I%26#39;d probably be the only one there, LOL!!! Assume MB has snowbirds/golfters??? As for the weather, I don%26#39;t mind not swiming, but will it be freezing?

MB in January?

Most of the visitors in January are in fact retirees and golfers. Many are long term condo renters (1 to 3 months) that come down from the NE or MW. Beaches are not deserted, but certainly not crowded. People continue to walk the beaches for exercise and looking for shells. If you go swimming, likely, you will be alone, as the water temps are COLD!!

Another thing nice about January is the cost of things....hotel room rates and condo rates are at their lowest...and a number of restaurants have some awesome apecials...like buy one get one free! Most of the shows are on hiatus until mid February, with the exception of the House of Blues, which still has a concert schedule.

The ocean is cold, but we have had Jaunarys where, if you are blocked from the wind (rent a wind hut) and it a sunny, clear day...you can actually get sunburnt!

:)

I%26#39;m planning on being there in January, probably for the whole month. As others have said, it is an unbeatable bargain in Dec. %26amp; Jan. (lowest rates of the year) %26amp; some winters are actually quite mild. Yes, a lot of places will be closed, but it will certainly not be deserted. If you like to swim, just stay at a place with an indoor pool.

I go exclusively for THE BEACH, so it won%26#39;t bother me if the kiddie things and tourist traps are closed (quite the contrary)!!! My sole side trip may be to Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington Beach State Park in Murrells Inlet, which I understand are open year-round. My dream is to be able to spend Dec-Jan at the ocean!!!

Many places have indoor pools and heated whirlpools...it%26#39;s a great place to be during the winter.
