Looking for Classic Neon Motel/Hotels or unusual stay-over

My sweetie and I are taking a cross-country road trip next August and we%26#39;d like to stay in hotels or motels that have that real vintage vibe. We don%26#39;t have the trip mapped out yet so all towns will be considered.

I love the Safari Inn, in Burbank California. Sweet Motel with pool and vintage neon but modern facilities.

Unfortunately many older places are torn down or run down. If you know of any diamonds in the rough we鈥檇 love to hear about it.

If you have a recommendation of someplace unusual, that works too.

The Quality Inn Ambassador in Fayetteville, NC; the Quality Inn in Perry, GA; and the Quality Inn Breeze Manor in Breezewood, PA are all properties that date back to the %26#39;50%26#39;s and have been affiliated with Quality back when it was called Quality Courts United. They%26#39;re of the classic motel style, with a single floor building spread out over a large plot of land. Also look at Clark%26#39;s Inn And Restaurant in Santee, SC. The Sun Set Inn in Manning, SC is a former Howard Johnson%26#39;s and some of their rooms are straight out of a 1960%26#39;s Hojo%26#39;s ad (i.e., never been overhauled).

Definitely check out ';South of the Border'; on I-95 on the border of North Carolina/South Carolina. Looks straight out of the ';Brady Bunch'; era... It%26#39;s more like a motor lodge, but very vintage indeed!

We stayed there 2 years ago and it was not bad at all... definitely worth checking out.

Coopgirlkiz - I stumbled upon your post totally by accident (you know how a link takes you to another place!) and I%26#39;d love to see the final list of motels you choose. I%26#39;ll try to follow your posts to see the suggestions.

This is in wrong forum, but we stumbled upon a place called ';Rustic Cottages'; in Lake Tahoe and it was delightful!
