I am planning my honeymoon, and have heard that the islands off of South Carolina are pretty nice, does anyone recommend them for a honeymoon, and if so, where to stay??

Thank you

Try posting this in the Charleston forum. They have locals that are really helpful and are very quick to respond to questions:) I know they could offer some great suggestions.

Are you looking for more of a 5 stars place, a villa, near shopping and dining- or something more remote? Downtown Charleston isnt at the beach but it%26#39;s close. Lots to do though.

Jekyll Island off of GA%26#39;s coast is also very nice.

http://www.jekyllisland.com/index.asp. I%26#39;m a personal fan of Bald Head Island in NC but Im not sure it would be a good place for a honeymoon. Not a lot to do other than enjoy nature, which I love. www.baldheadisland.com.

Any way you go the coasts of SC, GA, and outer banks of NC are wonderful! But yes, some places are better than others.

Best of luck :)

I don%26#39;t know what you are looking for in a honeymoon, but look at Hilton Head Island,SC. It has good food and nice beaches and some good resorts. There are things to do and it is close enough to Savannah, GA for a day trip. You have the choice of doing nothing other than getting up late and bumming on the beach, or playing some top rated golf courses and shopping.

If course, if the beach isn%26#39;t your main goal then you can%26#39;t beat Charleston.

The Isle of Palms is about 20 min from downtown Charleston and has beautiful beaches. You could stay at the Wild Dunes Resort. You would have plenty of beach time and still be able to go into Charleston for some sight seeing. Wild Dunes has a website that may give you more info. In my opinion this would be preferable to Hilton Head as you will have more options for things to do. If you plan to spend most of your time on the beach or in the room (after all, it IS your honeymoon!!) Then Hilton Head may be just fine.

If you want quiet, pampered, and elegant, with beautiful nature surrounding, check the The Sanctuary Hotel on Kiawah Island and The Inn at Melrose on Daufuskie Island. Both properties are expensive, but they might suit you for a honeymoon splurge. Kiawah is close to Charleston; Daufuskie (off Hilton head) is close to Savannah.

Hey philly,

I have been to a lot of the SC islands over the last 12 years or so. Depending on what you want, here is a short breakdown on some the the islands I have visited:

Harbor Island - The best beach. The island itself is quiet, private, very nice. The beach is never crowded because you have to stay on the island to use it, and the island is small. There is a beach club, with pool, etc. The good thing is you can get a private stay, so close to Beaufort, which is a really cool old town with restaurants and shops. You will also be fairly close to Charleston. Rent a Villa or a house-no hotels

Outer Banks - Nags Head, Corolla, and the others in that area are much busier, with more to do, but a lot more touristy. Go to Kitty Hawk and the dunes.

Jekyll is ok. The beach is not the greatest, but it is closer to other towns in the area.

Seabrook Island - Very close to Charleston, A lot of people. The houses are packed together, but it is still really nice. Their is a beach club with a pool, and the beach is decent.

If you are not set on an Island completely, just do Charelston.

If you are, I recommend Harbor or that area

I live in Charleston and would highly recommend it for a honeymoon vacation. I would suggest staying either in Mt. Pleasant(in between the beaches and downtown Charleston) it would be a nice central location with lots of good restarants to choose from and close to everything. You can stay in one of the bed and breakfast downtown(2 Meeting STreet Inn would be great for a honeymoon). We just stayed there for 2 nights for our anniversary.

I also agree with someone who suggested Daufuskie Island. Our family goes there often for vacation. Off the coast of Hilton Head Island. Stay at the Daufuskie Island Resort.

Myrtle Beach is also lots of fun. I personally like Litchfield which is south of Myrtle Beach or Pawley%26#39;s Island. Both are a little less crowded but still not too far from all the fun. Hope this helps.

philly9701---you%26#39;ve got too many choices as far as Carolina%26#39;s islands really. I%26#39;m a big fan of Hunting Island, SC for its cottages and absolutely gorgeous beach and lack of touristas. Its owned by the state and out of thousands of barrier islands, is the furthest out to the ocean of them all...so the beach feels more remote and the water less ';river dirty'; and more blue green ocean like. Its all trees and sand and these funky little cottages, some of which are tucked back in the trees and I would specify for one of those if they%26#39;re available. The cool thing about these is that they%26#39;re inexpensive for long stretches and anything between say October and March are typically very available. Or if you%26#39;re talking next year then you%26#39;re way ahead of the rest. Its a pretty rustic place so it depends on if you%26#39;re seeking something more upscale or not. If you want something similiar to what I%26#39;ve described but are looking for the upscale relative, then look into Fripp Island which incidentally is also hope to famed author Pat Conroy. They have low to high end accomodations but it does have that aire of ';PRIVATE'; with some of the locals so if you%26#39;re a tourist they smell it on you. But its still a pretty cool place. I%26#39;ve stayed there as well and had a pretty good time. Great food on the island. Both are near some great historical adventures in terms of Gullah and Geechee culture and the neighboring islands(accessible by road) are full of ruins, history, museums, food, art and it feels very Old South and less over run and modernized then some of the other islands of South Carolina which to me feel like ';gated communities';.
