Been researching, is Aiken the closest /best city to live in?

We have 2 small children-saw woodside plantation...need to be in the best area with best schools........any info on this city would be great! Moving from South Tampa--wondering if we are going to go into shock.

moving form tampa to this area will be quite a shock, there are very limited services, even grocery is few and far between. zero fast food. but excellent country cooking is available when you can find it. i love the area but it is out in the boonies. if you are looking for small town america this area has a host of itty bitty towns tailor made for you. denmark, north, springfield , salley and even swansea are charming little towns each hosting civic festivals but have yet to attract much commerce, almost none. it%26#39;s in the country, land prices are cheap, there aren%26#39;t many jobs and thus very limited services. aiken is a charming city rich in a diverse culture and is the closest actual city and has everything you%26#39;ve come to expect. other options would be columbia or augusta. the area is convienent to charleston and savannah. but both are more than an hour away. good luck!

I was born %26amp; raised in Aiken; it%26#39;s a great place to live %26amp; raise kids. Aiken has any type of fast food you%26#39;d want; they even have a mall. It is close to Augusta as well as Columbia (the capital which is a lovely place). I think you%26#39;d be much happier in Aiken with your family than in Augusta. Crime is MUCH less in Aiken %26amp; the schools are excellent. It even is home to USC-Aiken (branch campus to the University of South Carolina). I now live in Orlando, but I miss Aiken soooo much. I loved calling Aiken home %26amp; think you will, too. Best wishes on your move %26amp; new position.
