hotels - best for 12 day stay

A happy new year from the UK! We are planning our annual trip to the USA and would like to fly into Atlanta, travel next day to Charleston and stay about 10-12 days before heading back for a couple of days in Atlanta before the flight back. Some of the hotels are a bit beyond our price range - our daughter gets married in August, enough said! - but for a stay this long we need a reasonably large room. Have looked at the Holiday Inn in the historic district. Can you people suggest alternatives, I%26#39;ve looked at the revues of various places but often find that the replies to this sort of query can tell me things I need to know.

when is your trip and how many people?

Have you coinsidered renting a house? Maybe on Folly Beach, IOP, Kiawah or sullivan;s? Folly cheapest and very close to downtown. The others more resort-like. If I couldn%26#39;t stay DT I would rent for extended stay on the beach.

search for rental agents - I know avocet properties handles many, and so does one other - a guys name, sorry, I%26#39;m drawing a blank on name but a quick search will find it.

Maybe something like the embassy suites, if DT too high $$$ maybe near the airport? Not in town but for that long a stay you have a refrig %26amp; microwave and separate living room.

congrats on wedding

Could not agree more with bridgefan about vacationing on Folly Beach. We have stayed there for the past five years in different rentals: dunes properties, fred holland, island rentals. Each house was different but wonderful. We especially liked Pavilion Watch (rented thorugh dunes properties). Direct acces to the beach from the condos, and it includes a swimming pool for guests%26#39; use also. Our cost was about $1400 for the week (8 of us stayed there). You would be about a 15-minute drive from Charleston. Great restaurants within a few minutes: Brinsons%26#39;, Snapper Jack%26#39;s, pizza shops, tapas bar, etc.

I have to agree with renting a house, villa or condo. It can save you lots of dollars by not having to eat out every meal. You also get much more room.
